West Texas Drought Creates Gardening Challenges
Posted on June 1st, 2014
Keeping a pretty yard can be a challenge anywhere, but add in hot, dry winds and a years-long drought and you have a recipe for frustration. We finally had a rain last weekend, but we are a drought level 2 (only 18 months of water), meaning that we can only water once every 14 days during certain times. Add an especially bitter winter complete with ice storms and you will understand why we are having to replant our beds.
After hours of digging holes in the heat, we are proud of our new landscape. Our new plants are drought resistant and many are native to our area. Here’s hoping that they are able to thrive and survive next winter. It would be great not to have to start over again next June!
We’ve only had the birdbath a couple of weeks, but the birds have already found it, and they appreciate the water source. Thanks for stopping by!
