Tuesday SOL: A New Normal
Posted on April 3rd, 2018
I wasn’t supposed to write today. I needed a break, I told myself. Instead, I’ve spent the day cleaning my office from top to bottom, rearranging every piece of furniture that I can physically move. I’ve enjoyed a cup of hot tea in my newly arranged space wondering what to do next while my laptop sits nearby.
“Why aren’t you writing?” It whispers to me.
The truth is that not writing the last two days has sent me adrift. Crazy, right? But after 31 days of slicing, I have formed a new pattern to my days. “Normal” is pondering what to write, freewriting/typing to discover a topic while wondering what others are writing.
“Aren’t you glad to be finished?” several family members have asked me.
I’ve assured them that, yes, I am. Writing every single day last month really stretched me. But today I’m not so sure. I know there will be crazy, busy days when writing doesn’t happen, but I’ve decided that writing keeps me centered and gives me reason to reflect and create. Therefore, I have promised myself that Tuesdays at least will definitely be writing days, thanks to Slice of Life Tuesdays.
Now I’d best save this post and find out what others have chosen to write today. Because that’s what I do on Tuesdays now!
What each of the other responders has said, I echo. I awoke on April 1 and began again. That April is National Poetry Month has provided inspiration for me. I am such a lover of poetry and innumerable “greats” to choose from that it can be overwhelming, but there aren’t enough days in the year for poems!
I was thankful the month came to a close and I had a rest for two days. Then I felt like I couldn’t miss out today! Happy you reorganized your space and you found the opportunity to write!
What an interesting shift that has taken hold of us after writing daily for a month! I had similar thoughts this afternoon. But you did it! Way to go. Happy Tuesday slicing. 🙂
Seriously, I thought I was going to skip out on it too. After all, we were traveling home today. And I have lots of unpacking to do. HOWEVER, I don’t know how to ignore writing. So, here I am too. Glad you wrote!
