SOL 18: A Mockingbird’s Ode to Spring
Posted on March 27th, 2018
We woke up to a welcome sound this morning–rain running off our roof! Here in West Texas it is a glorious sound. It measured only 0.77 inches, but it was enough to wash the dust off and make our plants’ leaves glisten.
As I was out snapping pics of raindrops on our plants, a mockingbird landed in the oak tree and serenaded me with his Ode to Spring Showers. I quickly switched my phone to video so that I could share his glorious song with you all.
Enjoy!
“…remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird,” Atticus told Jem.
“Your father’s right.” Miss Maudie added. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. …they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
To Kill a Mockingbird
Washing the dust off – I so get that. Often we only get a few drips, which is just enough to leave dust rings around where the droplet landed.
I think the mockingbird is the Florida state bird. I don’t know there songs, but I can identify a few common FLorida birds. TKM is my favorite too. Love how you mixed mediums with this post.
I wasn’t aware that Texas and Florida share the mockingbird as their state bird. As to recognizing their songs, mockingbirds get their name from the fact they can mock or mimic other birds’ songs. If you hear one bird singing a whole repertoire of tunes, chances are it is a mockingbird.
It is interesting to read others’ posts, and this one having a mockingbird and literary connection is a treat. Enjoy the beautiful spring – we’re still waiting for it to appear in the northeast.
So cool that you captured the song, embedded it to your post, AND alluded to one of my favorite books! Well done.
Thanks! It was truly a serendipitous moment. BTW, it’s one of my favorite books, too!
