From My Heart to Yours
Posted on January 20th, 2015
My heart is your treat today! Well, my heart shaped treat holder, anyway. This heart can serve as a card, treat holder, and a treat all rolled into one. Valentine’s Day is my favorite reason to craft apart from Christmas. So many people to remember + such fun Stampin’Up! products to play with = happiness!
My inspiration for this project came back during the holidays when I saw the Many Merry Stars kit in the Holiday Supplement. I love making little boxes, and it hit me that adding a strip of cardstock to the underside of the largest size circle, square, or heart shaped framelits would create a box. Once I started, though, I decided to attach both hearts to the same strip and leave the top open to allow for treats to peak out of the top. Much cuter and more versatile, too!
Recipe:
2 large scalloped hearts cut from black cardstock
2 large hearts cut from Real Red cardstock & embossed with the Happy Heart Embossing Folder
1 strip of black cardstock 8″ x 1-1/2″, scored lengthwise at 3/8″ on both sides & through the center point (4″)
Glue red hearts to black scalloped hearts with 2-way glue and let dry. On the back of both black hearts, make small marks 1/2″ in from scallops with a light marking pencil as a guideline.
Fold black strip along score lines and snip up to the 3/8″ score line every 1/2″ along both long sides.
Fold the strip in half at the scoreline and then gently cure strip to “train it” a little.
Punch a small hole (I used the smaller Crop-a-Dile side) 1/2″ from each end of strip for ribbon.
After applying Snail adhesive along both long edges of strip, slowly adhere the strip to one scalloped heart. Turn heart with strip attached and attach it onto the back of the other scalloped heart.
Run a strip of ribbon through the hole on each side and tie a knot on the inside to secure.
This sounds like a lot, but it goes quickly, and it’s SO worth the effort, I think! Of course you could use any color combination of cardstock and decorate it many different ways; another plus, don’t you think?
I’ve been on a Real Red and Black binge, partly because of the cute Stacked With Love DSP Paper Stack in the Stampin’Up! Occasions catalog that features Real Red and black.
For embellishment, I turned to the You Plus Me stamp set, as I’m loving the Twitterpated stamp. It reminds me of Thumper, the rabbit in the movie Bambi who is so twitterpated when he sees Miss Bunny that he sees hearts and can’t stop thumping his leg. Could be that Cupid’s arrow shot him, don’t you think? What better stamp to complement the Twitterpated than the little cupid shooting his arrow. He is from the P.S. I Love You set (retired).
To add a little sparkle, I used the Heart Confetti Border Punch to punch tiny hearts from a strip of the Gold Foil paper. I glued one over the stamped heart tip of Cupid’s arrow and scattered a few more in the direction of Twitterpated and under the word. To continue the gold theme, I embossed Twitterpated with gold glitter embossing powder (third party).
Next I plan to line it with some tissue paper (with sparkly gold specks, don’t you think?) and fill it with yummy chocolate treats. The hard part will be deciding which sweet person will receive this project. Oh, dear. Looks like I will need to make more than one! Such a sacrifice to spend more time in my craft room….
Thanks for stopping by and spending a few minutes with me. Leave a comment if you have any questions. I LOVE hearing from readers (and knowing that I have any readers)!
