Becoming Who I Am
Posted on May 4th, 2015
Today’s card is actually one that I made in January 2009 in response to a challenge to make a card that inspired me to go forward. I had just begun making cards and didn’t have many supplies, but after those 4-5 cards I made during that Christmas holiday, I was hooked!
The quote I used on the card is one of my favorites. Since I didn’t have a stamp, I typed it in a Word document and printed it on cardstock. The saying is mistakenly attributed to author George Eliot, a fact I wasn’t aware of when I made this card years ago. Regardless of who first said or wrote the words, their meaning is noteworthy.
One of life’s surprises has been that I even as I’m growing older, I am still becoming who I am. I carried around this idea for years of what it would be like as an “older” adult, and it seemed to me that I would have just become who I was–period. End of growing. Truth is, though, that I’m still aware that the choices I’m making daily are forming me into the person I am becoming. What seemed so mysterious to me as a teenager is clearer to me now: our character is continually formed by the small choices we make each day.
I’m doing my best to make choices to be kind to others and to continue being eager to learn. Who is it that you want to become? It’s never too late, you know!
Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by.
