I have always loved quilts — the look of them, the feel of them, and  the effort that goes into making them. My husband’s grandmother taught me to quilt before she passed. She grew up on the Plains of Texas in a pioneer family who survived on what they could grow, produce, and make for themselves. She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren as graduation presents. My husband’s is made from scraps of shirts he wore growing up and is a kaleidoscope of color and patterns. We especially cherish it because it is one of the last quilts Gingy pieced and quilted totally by hand.

This card is actually a case of a card that Anne Hayward posted on her blog.  I used the Stampin’ Up! Full Heart Punch to punch four hearts from Twitterpated DSP and then cut each heart in half lengthwise. For the background, I cut eight rectangles (2 of each color) measuring 1″ X 2″. I used adhesive to place the pieces on a sheet of copy paper. Then I embossed the finished block for a quilted texture. The block is mounted on Cherry Cobbler cardstock, and the quote is printed on the same cardstock used to make the card base.

I enjoy piecing fabric quilts (both by hand and machine), but piecing paper quilts goes much more quickly, and you can’t beat embossing for quick quilting. If you enjoy paper piecing, I recommend that you give quilting with paper a try.  For inspiration, check out this Quilt Cards Pinterest board.
