Summer Fun with Tasty Treats
Posted on May 21st, 2018
Summer is nearly here! My grandson’s preschool year ended last Friday with a Luau celebration, and we decided to treat each of his classmates with a card and some bubbles. I let him choose the papers to use, and he settled on the retired Tasty Treats DSP from the 2017 Occasions catalog. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but those cute ice cream images have a glossy finish. I cut the Watermelon Wonder cardstock to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ so that we could get 4 cards from a single sheet of cardstock. The striped piece is also from the Tasty Treats DSP.
We looked through MANY stamps before Ben told me he just wanted to say Happy Summer! Note to self: giving freedom of choice sometimes results in creative design issues. I have no stamp that says Summer. We settled on the happy stamp from the retired 2016 Hello Life stamp set. It’s photopolymer, and so I was able to snip the happy from the words “do more of what makes you” without damaging it. As I’m sure you can tell, I printed the word Summer! with a Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write marker. Halfway through the cards, I resolved to purchase the new calligraphy set from the new catalog. What a blessing that four years old is not overly critical of printing!
I found some cute bubbles in the Target bargain bins that we taped to the back of each card… pink Paw Patrol for the girls and turquoise Nemo ones for the boys. Luckily, we had an extra one to try out in the backyard. They passed the quality control test with flying colors.
Here is the back of one of the cards with the bubbles taped to it. I cut out ovals using one of the Stitched Shapes framelits to put their names on and then attached an ice cream cone that I fussy cut from the DSP.
One of the best parts of being retired is having time to do projects with my grandchildren that I never could with my own two sons. The last weeks of school for me as a secondary English teacher were always filled with late night essay grading, typing exams and then grading them, etc. I loved teaching and miss it sometimes, but I sure don’t miss the awful fatigue of those days.
Thanks for stopping by and spending a few minutes with me today. I plan to get back to posting regularly. I have several stamp sets arriving tomorrow that I preordered from the new catalog. I’m excited to create some cards with them to share with you!
