Fall is officially here, and Halloween decorations are springing up in yards along our block. I imagine  many children are already considering what they will “be” for Halloween while anticipating all the treats that will fill their bags. The last two years I took time to make small treat holders with DSP toppers to pass out, but I chose to make treats for a different group this year–the homebound elderly who receive meals through our local Meals for the Elderly. These dear people most certainly define the word treat differently from the young trick-or-treaters. I was surprised to learn that one of their requests is for Chapstick. One other difference is that many of these elderly people are on restricted diets, so they need sugar-free candy.

I shopped around and found a pretty good deal for both items and purchased enough for 120 bags. A lot, right? After cutting out about 20 of the toppers, I was wondering what I was thinking. You will notice that I didn’t use the Lots of Labels framelit, as I haven’t purchased that one yet. Not sure it would have been much faster running it through the Big Shot 120 times, though!

I was able to cut nine pieces from each sheet of the Happy Haunting DSP to line the cello bags, and cutting the spiderwebs into fourths made them go further. I love the fact that our DSP is double-sided, as the back of the bags look cute, too.

I had excellent help assembling the bags. My five-year-old granddaughter was happy to team up with me. She was very focused and kept us going so that we finished them in only two sessions. She is excited to deliver them, too. She was explaining to my husband that these treats are for “really” old people, “older than you Pop!” Gotta love children’s honesty, don’t you?

What do 120 treat bags look like all finished and ready to go? Take a look!
